NOTES:
- An
original ("no dash") 816 or 1232 can become
a "dash one" with a chip change.
- A
"dash two" can become a "dash
three" or "dash four" with a chip change.
- A
"dash four" manufactured from December 2001 onward, with
a serial number beginning with "1L" or higher can be
upgraded to "dash five" or "dash six" with a chip change.
-
Upgrades from an older 1232 to "dash five" or
"dash six" require
a replacement of the main circuit board, which costs
$692 plus shipping.
-
Upgrades from original ("no dash") to "dash two" or
"dash three" require a replacement of the main circuit
board, which costs a lot (about $800)
and takes
a long time to get.
- The
"dash two" does not have any features that
the "dash one" does not have.
- If you
want to use a tandem system with two KX-TD1232
cabinets, they must be the same version, with ONE
exception: you can use a "dash two" as the
master and a "dash one" as the slave.
- When
setting up a tandem system, disconnect all lines and
phones, turn on both cabinets at the same time, and
let them "bond" for about five minutes
before re-connecting the lines and phones.
-
You
can determine the version of a cabinet by
looking for a number in a circle on the bottom, near
the serial number. HOWEVER, it is more reliable to use
program # 116. Call us at 1 888 ABLE 999 and tell us
what you see on the phone's display screen, and we'll
tell you the version you have.
- You will
need a chip extraction tool (about $3 from
Radio Shack or a computer store).
- It's
easier/faster/safer to change chips if you remove all
of the cords and cables from the control unit, put it
flat on a table, and remove the entire front panel --
not just the little chip door.
- You can
upgrade a digital system by ordering an upgrade kit,
consisting of chips and installation instructions:
